Davenport's Task
Wed Dec 30, 2009 4:22 pm
When the threat of total destruction of the human race first occurred, the Davenport Technology Group decided to do their part to preserve the world. They were the largest company in the world at the time, and each of their buildings were designed with impenetrable, self sustaining vaults underneath the ground. They offered their employees and their families sanctuary during the war and afterward. The citzens of Davenport would rebuild the world after total destruction of everything else. Each continent held three of the company buildings, and each building housed three hundred families.
By the time in which the earth was livable again, Davenport Technology Group was the only remaining mark of mankind on the planet. Centuries passed and the families intermingled and learned how to live with the land .The culture was peaceful, and thriving. Many people were afraid to venture to the surface, but eventually they started living above ground again.
The 'Group' as it is collectively called has decided the time to remap the world is now. They have called for explorers from the remaining areas to travel the world and map what is left. While each of the buildings have their own specialties and cultures, The mapping party's task is to show the 'Group' where the best places t expand the growing civilazation. A few centuries leads to a lot of new families.
The explorers have a week to arrive at the main tower and prepare for travel, hopefully during that week they will also learn how to avoid getting on eachother's nerves. As they appoint themselves to the mapping party, the 'Group" gave the explorers first dibs on any choice settlement lands for when their jobs are finished.

Calling all explorers...Calling all explorers...The debreifing meeting will begin in fifteen minutes in conference room one one six. I repeat, meeting will begin in fifteen minutes in conference room one one six.
Rae groaned softly as she slid from her bed, her hair mussed and her boots already on her feet. She quickly ran her hand through her obsidian hair and yawned, twisting her back untill she heard pops. Her room was simplistic in design, a simple bed and desk, a small clock on the wall, and a closet. Before she headed out the door Rae grabbed her bag from the floor and turned off her lights.
With even strides she made good time in arriving at the conference room, a representative from the company greeted her and directed her to sit down. She looked around the conference room, noticing there were no windows to the outside, a precautionary measure the 'Group' had taken when designing the building. Windows were weak spots in design when the goal of the building is to protect the enhabitants from Nucular warfare. The walls were a muted lavender color, painted as such to keep a calm approach about topics. Rae knew the company always remained calm, how else would they have been able to survive the war.
Her train of thoughts ran off the tracks as the door opened again. She shot her eyes upwards, curious to see who she would be traveling with. Rae was not much of an explorer herself, but life in the area of the main Tower seemed so very pointless to her. All day long she sat and heard of marvelous discoveries, such as the clean water only a few meters from the tower. She recorded that after hearing it second hand. Now she was determined to record history first hand.

Zane sautered into the "Confrence Room", shortly after hearing the announcement. He was fully equiped, as usual. This confrence room was different from the others; the air smelt strange, the room just "seemed" dreary, whereas some of the others are fine. After observing the room for a moment, Zane sat down at the table, then noticed someone else already here. Before he could say anything to her, the same represenative that had just spoke to her, same rushing over to him.
The represenative whispered, which was odd. There were no secrets down here, everyone knew everybody, and everything. He caught a name, it must be the woman sitting near him. Zane grumbled a reply, then started fumbling with a pouch, checking to make sure he had all his personal effects. A few more minutes passed, then he glanced at his solar-powered watch; 10 minutes till the meeting. He slid his watch back up his sleeve and waited.

Rae glanced over at the newcommer and looked him over. Her face contorted into a slightly confused smile as she couldn't seem to place him in the community. She spoke softly, her voice seeming too loud in the large room.
"I can't stand this stupid room. It gives me bad vibes, like if we were in a room of the dead." She extened her hand to him."I'm Rae Matthews, who are you?" She blinked a few times at his clothing, but never the less she remained polite.

"I'm with you on that one, this room is weird...it's nothing like the rest of the compound." He offers his hand, "Zane Horton. Pleasure to meet you." He noticed a strange look on her face, like she was trying to hold in a laugh. "I understand I'm dressed strangely, and that's putting it nicely. I don't blame you, but up there," he pointed up toward the roof, "you can't take any chances. So, you're going out there? Like that?"
Zane noticed her clothing, which seemed a little inadequite for venturning out into the world. "Heh," Zane laughed, "Miss Matthews, I'm not sure if it's my place to say so, but if you step out there like that, I hope you don't mind being out there but for about five-minutes. If we did hit any radiation, which we most likely will, you'd be a goner. I assume you've never been out of here before, have you?"

She smiled and nodded."Aye, I'll be venturing out like this. The area around the compound has been clean for the past fifty years. Do you understand how long our community has been sheltered?" Rae leaned back in her chair, placing her feet onto the conference table and earning a look from the representative.
"Miss your feet." She looked over and gave a smirk. "Snodd off I'm getting comfortable if we're going to wait for the others." Rae turned her attention back to Zane."It's a pleasure to make your aquaintance my dear. However, all of our scientist agree that I would be fine to walk about like this above ground. Believe me, had I heard otherwise I would be in protective wear like you. Then again I could care less what happens to me, I'm bored living here." The let out a sigh as she stared up at the ceiling.

"Hmm. I'm getting the feeling that some of the others around here don't fancy me, obviously. I've ALWAYS been told that we were swarming in Radiation. Zane looks at the "Rad" meter on his shoulder; it measures normal. Well...I feel like a arse now, my apoligies."
He glances back at the clock, rather impatiently. "For so many of us to be going stirr-crazy, people certainly don't listen to annoucements. Whatever."

Rae giggled and sent Zane a smile."Don't worry about it dear. Most people here in the compound are pricks anyway." She folded her hands on her stomach and twiddled her thumbs. "It's all a matter of waiting, we still have eight minutes. Perhaps they got lost in the hall."
She hummed softly as she twiddled her thumbs, staring at the clock, her face looking rather bored. "Goodness they could do well to hurry it up a bit."

Amber was rushing as she strided to the conference room. The announcment had actually been what had woken her up, she had stayed up sketching into the late hours of the night last night.
She was breathing rather heavily when she entered the conference room. Man, I rly need to get rid of these boots. She thought to herself as she walked silently to her seat at the table. and noticed a woman and man also at the table. The woman was staring at the ceiling in a spacy manner and the man's clothing was very odd.
AMber straightened her knap sack, ran her fingers through her unkempt hair and sat down. noticing that a doodle on her wrist was showing, she covered it up with her sleeve and tried not to giggle remebering when she remebered why she had drawn it.
She took her watch out of her knap sack and cheked the time. "oh dear, just in time," she mummbled to herself when she read that there was only 3 minutes left until the conference started.

Zane rubs his head in his hands (AKA: Facepalm! xD), wondering when they'll get here. A noise in the hall causes him to stir, another woman walks into the room. "Then again, we do have about 25,000 confrence rooms, so no wonder everyone is running behind." Zane said, rolling his eyes. "What are we in again, Room: A-12-Zulu-Blue Moon-101?" He said sarcastically. "I'm just about to go out there and find everything for myself."
Another minute passes.

Zoned out in thought, Amber looks up sruprised to see ppl are there, even though she knew they were there.
She's looks at both of them directly and smiles. "Hi ya, I'm Amber Shaw," she says leaning forward to shake both of their hands.

Rae grinned at the newcommer and smiled as the representative passed the girl a folder with the materials in it. "Greetings doll, I'm Rae Matthews." She shifted a bit, placing her feet so the soles faced the far wall. The air in the room lightened up slightly when the new girl came running in, perhaps this wouldn't be a mistake.
She chuckled and sent a glance to Zane. "Now now, be patient. The compound is large, and I'm sure it will probably take everyone a bit to get here. Besides the materials will be available to those who couldn't make the meeting, and anyone else that is wondering what the company's doing with its spare time."

"Well, true!" Zane said to Rae, while shaking Amber's hand. "Hopefully, there'll be more than just us going out there, I heard some others mentioning it also. Strangely, this isn't a big deal with most of the guys I know, they're just like "Do I give a...?"
"Oh well, I find this whole situation quite exciting!" Zane said, lightening up slightly.

Rae giggled and nodded."I wouldn't expect them to be interested. Most would jump at a chance to fight some mutant thing, but this is simply exploring.I'm in this because if we find good land, we get first dibbs at settlement. I'm tired of living in cells." She smiled and set her feet on the ground. "What about you girly?"

Laughs softly. "Well I'm really just in it for the exploring feature, I can't wait to finally see what there is outside of this hole. Maybe it will give new inspiration for things," Smiles again and swiftly skims through the folder infront of me.

Rae nodded and also opened her folder. "I can understand that fully. This place is so boring. I can barely wait to begin the journey." She smiled and flipped through the pages. "Yuck...a book of protocol." Rae made a face and pushed the book away, sparing a glance at the clock."Alright, can we get this started then?"

OOC: I'm rather late
IC: The sun was glaring through the taxi cab window on Dylan's face. Odd , he though to himself. I was suppose to be at this conference, but that takes place well before the sun comes up.
"Holy crap I'm late" he said out loud. Instinctively, he sat up, only to bang his head on the roof of his car. "Jesus Christ." Fortunately for Dylan, he used up his last ounce of gasoline to park outside the conference last night, and was just a sprint away.
Bursts into the door
"Uhh, hi." he said in the middle of a yawn.

Her head shot to the door as it banged loudly against the far wall. With her eyes wide she grinned and started clapping."Glad you could make it. Who is for not waiting for any more latecommers? I'm ready to go exploring now." Rae grinned and motioned for the man to have a seat.
"Come and introduce yourself hun. Once you've seen the book they've given us we can get this show on the road." Rae stretched back in her seat and smiled."I'm Rae by the way."

Dylan takes out a cigarette and lighter, but notices that the confined room would certainly drag the smell of tobacco smoke. He pockets it and begins.
"Dylan's my name, and I'm sure we all know why I'm here. Doing something as opposed to doing nothing. Just a few days ago I traded a loaf of bread for 2 gallons of fuel. I traded half of that for a carton of smokes. Then I exchanged a pack of them for...well, never mind about that last one. Eventually, in this world of finite resources, we're all bound to dry up. Either I slowly rot by losing every day, or I do something worth while. Fortunately I found out about this meeting yesterday as information travels slowly to the slums. I pretty much gave up all my possessions to be here. So please, tell me I didn't waste my time."
Dylan takes out his cigarette and begins to lit it anyways.

Rae nodded as he finished and sent a look to the representative."Well? What are the tasks we must complete in order for Davenport's agreement to work? I don't want to mess up the oppurtunity to live above ground."
The representative turned to adress the group, his clothing a white business suit.He was tall and pale, and he moved slowly. A look of distain seemed permantly etched on his face. "Welcome. I have been tasked with outlining the methods of mapping you shall use. Each of you will be given a blank map with this tower at the center. How you wish to travel is up to the party to decide. I'm sure at least one of you has a compass. The company perfers that you use triangulation when ploting sites of interest on the map. Otherwise you are on your own. Should you come across another of Davenport's buildings rest there and refuel your supplies."
