Sat Jul 16, 2011 3:38 am
Dear President Antony Lassale
The New Solaris Government would like to offer a manufacturing contract to your newly formed country. We understand that you have docks that do not have work we as New Solaris Government would like to change that. We are willing to give $250,000 NSDs (5x 1 Kilogram Gold Bricks) and 10,000 lbs of Onyx Per ship constructed.
If interested contact us and provide designs of ships that can be fitted to carry large amounts of cargo and travel far distances
Signed
Elite General Darko DeLuca of New Solaris

OOC: Since I can't... err... don't want to do the math, can we agree that's a fair price for EC's 1500s?
-----
Sent Per Will of President Antony Lassale for the Republic of Capua;
To Be Received by Elite General Darko DeLuca of New Solaris.
Dated 4 April 1571.
-----
Greetings, friend.
Capuan shipyards are certainly ready to take your orders and I will transfer this request immediately to the appropriate authorities. On the part of the Treasury, my advisers assure me that your price is most agreeable. I accept it on behalf of the Kuat Yards State Contract Division.
My discussions with Kuat Yards officials have indicated to me that it would be possible for us to, over the period of the next several months, produce for you roughly fifteen cargo ships. We are open for a second similar contract after this first contract is completed--though this would require another short negotiation. All together, then, we can build you thirty ships over the next two years or so.
We promise you the ships will fit your specifications.
SIGNED,
Antony Lassale
PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC

OOC: Yo, I'm not an engineer, but I think I know some stuff.
The ship is seven storeys tall. That's a massive construction. Modern composites, which this design appears to use, are far out of reach of any EC faction, and at the same time are the only reason that the Asgard appears to be possible, since, as I'm sure you realize, making that monstrosity out of wood and metal, as the Republic would be forced to do in EC's universe at this time, would be a most disastrous design choice if anyone ever tried to sail this thing. Unless you plan for it to be a leaky, self-defeating, immobile undersea lair, but somehow I doubt you have much use for that.
I should also point out that this ship appears to be a trimaran. Today, trimarans are fairly attractive for various physics-y reasons related to speed I don't want to get into here, but it should be noted that nobody even tried this (on a large scale; I'm sure a wooden trimaran canoe-ish vessel is perfectly doable) until modern times because of the strength of materials available. Throw a mono-hull around in a storm and you can get away with wood as your building material. Try that with a wooden trimaran and you may find yourself rather torn. Also, trimarans have less hull space, making them impractical cargo ships even today, and militaries still won't touch them because of the obvious weakspots.
By the way, check the pictures. It also has engines. Steam engines don't exist in EC, and neither do internal combustion engines, meaning that the propellers, if they could even be built with period mechanics, would be man-powered or use the strength of animals. I shouldn't have to point out how that's impractical for your purposes.
The car is even worse. To start with, treadmills do not provide you with free energy. Whoever designed this vehicle likely has it run on electricity. Modern idea might be great; I'm not going to comment on it, since I'm dealing with a 1500s natpol here. Since those technologies don't exist in EC just yet, your car would have to run entirely on people-power. When someone gets into it, they will have to do work to move the treads and overcome (lots of) extra friction there, in addition to moving the extra weight of the (likely metal in EC's day) enclosure around them. Nifty? I don't even think it gets that. It's just absolutely and entirely pointless, except as some sort of exercise machine. And even then!
I'm sorry if that was condescending. XD

OOC: Just say cargo ships. Normal, cargo-carrying, sail-using, monohull cargo ships. xD
