[SIC] Meeting in the Night Empty [SIC] Meeting in the Night

Fri Sep 02, 2011 3:51 pm
Franz was on the sea again. He recovered fully and was itching to be back on the open water, now that time had come. He had received orders to parley with some captain another nation. Franz was given a note with what he was supposed to memorize and then burn. He had finished the first two steps, and now he had entered the disputed waters of the captain.

He calmly sailed the warship and ordered his crew to raise a white flag, exactly as he was ordered to do. It was a foggy night, and they seemed to just glide across the still water.

"Should we turn off the lanterns sir?"
"No, keep them on, in fact, light some more. We want to be noticed."

Where are you?

"Admiral, there's a an unidentified ship entering our waters. Lanterns are up at full: either they don't know that these waters are dangerous, or they're complete fools."

Theron looked up from his charts at the eyepatched young woman. "What colors are the flying?" he asked boredly.

"None," reported the elf. "They fly a flag of truce, instead." Theron's eyebrows twitched slightly.

"Hail them," he said shortly. "Then bring our ship alongside and prepare to board. Keep your weapons sheathed unless you see evidence of them on deck."

A ship cut through the fog and came alongside Frantz's. It's men boarded his and Frantz ordered his men to stand down. A few of the "pirates" came and grabbed him and took him over and into the captain's quarters. He stood proudly and walked strongly as they forcefully guided him to his destination.

There Theron stood, gazing at his own charts and paying little attention. Frantz cleared his throat and began to recite his message.

"My leader, Grand Chancellor Wilhelm Dempsy wishes to create an alliance with you, Grand Admiral Theron. We offer you our power, arms and ships in return of peace between our two bodies of power and the joy of crushing the Capuan Naval Fleet."

OOC: Even then, the Ironhull ship is not flying any colors. It would be next to impossible to know which nation it belongs to with the current technology levels

OOC Probably not. But it would be noticed since they aren't flying therons colours either. It'd be narrowed down to tyksland or ironhull.

OOC: Or Alba, or the Holy Empire...

Khamul, I find it ridiculously convenient that you would be able to find the Capuan ships still burning and then track down Theron's ships. By the time that the remains of the Capuan fleet was found by CAPUANS, Theron would be long gone. The news wouldn't spread for awhile after. You wouldn't be able to track him, even from the town that he burned. He could have gone in any direction, and as I said, the ocean is a big place.

-------

Theron's eyebrows rose. He blinked at Frantz, and said, in a perfectly flat and articulate tone, "What." He shook his head to shake off the feeling of shock. "You will join us against the Republic fleet? Why?"

OOC: The ships set off about an hour after the attack, and my ships werea lready getting ready in anticipation. The trail isn't as cold as it seems. Realistically, my ships WOULD know before Capua; they don't even know they are destroyed yet. The trade ships I assume would be big enough to leave behind a considerable mark and I know the jist of where Erynnen is. Im heading in that sort of way, using the ships for minimal guidance.

"Well why not?" He pulled out a cigarette, "Mind if i smoke?" Theron let him light a match and he lit the cigarette. He offered one to Theron, but he declined. Frantz let out a puff of smoke before continuing.

"The relations between Capua and the Dominion are.....SOUR to say the least. We have tried to some extent to repair this bridge between us but all have been shot down by their government. This assault will be the perfect opportunity to remind the Capuans that they are NOT top dogs in the world.

Im not saying the Dominion is....but their ignorance has become a threat, not only to us....but to the rest of the world. What if what happened to Solaris happened to Erynnen? or the Dominion. This allegiance can help us protect each other."

OOC @ K: What?! An hour after the attack on the coastal town? That's completely impossible. Even if you were ready for this to happen, you wouldn't have found out. Countries are also large places. There are no telephones or internet. Even if someone discovered the coastal town being destroyed and set out for the capital at once, he wouldn't have gotten the message until at least a day later, and relaying the orders would take another day at least. Lastly, no matter how prepared a fleet is, it wouldn't be ready to sail in an hour. The Marine Nationale is in wartime mobilization, and even Red admits that his professionals would take three days to set sail. Maybe the Erynnen could cut it down to two, being the most legitimate naval power, but there's no way that your people could prepare that quickly.

I call shenanigans.

-----

Theron smiled thinly. "Forgive me if I do not trust you. Besides, what do I care if Capua chooses to turn on Ciltesse? Those who follow him made the choice to do so, and in doing so turned their backs on me. I have no sympathy for traitors..." He chuckled. "Even if I am one."

"And when you take power? Capua has many economic assets in Erynnen and Ciltesse. They will not take the war lightly and sit back. If they are not a threat now, i can assure you they will be." Another puff of smoke was let out.

OOC: I think it makes about as much sense , if not more, than you being able to raze one of my coastal settlements to the ground in one post and in basically one sentence. Especially since the only coastal towns you could have attacked are basically next to main ports. Plus, EVERY man in my nation is a soldier. That means there were soldiers in that village, which you somehow eradicated in one post, withought considering the defences in the settlements. Wheres the roll for that?

OOC: Lest you forgot, I explained EXACTLY how I managed that. My shipboard cannons could care less that every man in your country is a soldier. Sailing in suddenly and bombarding your town to the ground is a perfectly viable strategy. And as for all of your towns being close to major ports... I wouldn't think so.

OOC: I changed it to a small fishing village. Although I'm sure that at least two ships from your fleet and a hundred heavy musketeers were there, given your excellent military mobilization. Now will you stop bitching?
--------
Theron gave Frantz an appraising look. "You intend to turn on the Capuans. Do any of your sailors know this? Or are they under the impression that this was a demand for surrender?"
