Great Dynasty of Curaidach Empty Great Dynasty of Curaidach

Mon Aug 29, 2011 3:40 pm
Name of Country: Great Dynasty of Curaidach (koo-rii-dah-ch, said quickly)
Nickname: GDC, residents referred to as Dachans(though pronounced as “Dakkans”)
Race: Human
Motto: Boitean in Siochaint~ Rest in peace, commonly said by soldiers after killing an enemy. (An enemy worthy of respect, of course)
Flag: A hawk rising up with burning embers falling behind it
Location (on map): Small southern island off the coast of the larger island, purple
Various Symbols: Hawk, Shield, and Spear.
Leader Title: Arbiter
Leader Name: Drochasal VII(real name Robert Drochasal). Pronounced Draw-kah-sol.
Capital: Calasaigh (kall-seyy)
State Religion: No god worship, but belief in a world beyond our own, and that serving a husband/dying honorably (gender based) grants a key into “Flaitheas”, think Valhalla.

Political Overview: The entire nation rests on the decisions of the Arbiter, who is at the head of a council. After offered the opinions of the high council(all retired soldiers), the Arbiter is left with the decision, and what action must be taken. For example, there is a flood in a neighboring island not part of the Dynasty, and there is a fifty/fifty split on whether to help of disregard the other nations pleas for help. The Arbiter of course has power outside of this, but this is just an example. The Arbiter has the final say, so can even make decisions when in the minority. The council members are only there to offer their opinions. The council members know their place and trust in the Drochasal Dynasty

Economic Overview: This country has been isolated for a long time, and is entirely self-sustainable. It grows crops, like wheat, corn, rice and others. Cattle are reared here also, and are used for things like milk, fur, wool and meat, depending on the animal.

National History: Curaidach is a culture that has existed, mostly in isolation, for millennia. Boys are raised from the early age to be warriors, and train until they are 20 for the regular foot soldiers, 18 for navy sailors, and 26 for the more advanced, better trained soldiers. The women, being weaker in human biology, take on the task of running stalls and shops, preparing food and birthing their husbands sons or daughters. Soldiers who reach the age of sixty have a choice: get into politics or become a blacksmith, or a tailor, or even a celebrity (usually if they take up art of join the Luthmhor (Loo-th-mawr), which is basically like the Olympics for this country.
Currently, not much is known about Curaidach: only that it is a nation much like the others in terms of technology. No more is known of Curaidach(publically, anyway)

Political Systems: Crime is extremely low due to the upbringing of the children, as they haven’t been exposed to modern culture: their life is dedicated to their job, and they take immense pride in that. But on the (very) off chance there is a criminal, They are imprisoned in the Takartas (Tah-khar-Tass) which is a huge stadium where sports events are held, and are led out to be fed to lions, or to participate in fights with other prisoners. These fights are called Friogais (free-oh-gai-ss) matches, which are essentially gladiator matches.

Economic Systems: Only the women are paid, and they are paid on a weekly wage. The wage is moderate, as there is a lot of wealth in this island. The wife is paid enough to support her business and supply for her family, with a moderate allowance to enjoy luxuries such as seats in events at the Takartas.

Important Resources: Gold, Steel, Iron, Fine Wood, Black Steel*(available only in the mountains of Curaidach), leather, fur, salmon and other fish

Significant Figures: Drochasal VII (Arbiter), Council members (too many to mention, about forty), General Cirach (Kii-rach), Doctor Eolai(EE-Oh-Lai, Head scientist)

Societal Overview: Curaidach is very closed down. Its citizens stay on the island because everything they need is already there, and it’s people are fine with that. No citizen is in a particular “class”. They are all as important as the next. If females are the blood and foundation of this nation, the males are the fists, brains and blades.
Foreigners are NOT welcome as of now. However, visits from the elves of the Archipelago are welcomed with open arms, as they were the first outside contact the Dachans had, millennia ago. They also taught them how to use ships, and how to make them.

Geographical Overview: Hills, forests, plains and beaches are all common views in Curaidach.

Climate Overview: The weather is very reliable in Curaidach. It is the perfect place to raise cattle and grow crops, which explains why Curaidach relies on its own devices when it comes to the world stage, and also explains why it’s very secular.

Technological Overview: Up-to-date, with not much innovation. A few modifications have been made to existing designs, like the Dachan Fire, a sort of flamethrower mounted to the bow of small ships. It is, however, regarded as unstable and isn’t used unless it’s a hit-and-run situation. Like food, all weaponry is created on site in blacksmiths. Although rifles and pistols are used, Crossbows, daggers and swords are still used in battle, since they are rooted in their culture, and are used to deadly efficiency. A musket rifle that fires quite far (for a goddamn flintlock-esque rifle!) was custom made in Curaidach. This is called the Ahartas (which more or less means “improvement”)

Military Overview: The military, like most militaries, are split into Codaches(cod-ach-ez) which is the Dachan word for “divisions” (all of the language thus far is basically Gaelic, with a few modifications here and there).
The first is the general foot-soldier army, called the Saith (‘Backbone’ in Dachan). These are the general infantry that fight on the front lines. They don’t fight in huge numbers but they are perhaps the most skilled foot-soldier seen so far, since they were raised from birth to fight and are not afraid of death (see the glorious death mention up a bit). The experience they had in fighting was with indigenous tribes of the nearby unoccupied islands, and this is where the real fighting has happened so far. Horses are rode into battle, but not often.
The second is the navy, which is quite basic. It isn’t as great as the other nations’ navies, but it serves its purpose: blockades, transport and inception of enemy ships. The name of the navy is the Soitheach. (soy-theech).
The third is the more elite soldiers, Catharigh. They literally translate as “warrior kings” and are usually 30-ish when they start fighting. They are trained separately at birth to become these great soldiers. They are usually deployed in small numbers (around 100-300) during large scale battles, and in small skirmishes battalions, or Duths (Dew-ths). In the ancient times they would run into battle, over come with adrenaline, wearing their civilian clothes and covered in warpaint. They would scare the living daylight out of their enemies. They are just as intimidating nowadays, but are more discreet. Clubs, hammers, swords and axes were traded for cutlasses, crossbows, pistols and small powder bombs. These are the elite of the elite, and have no equal in battle.

This, Khmaul, is a huge improvement over the last one - and what's more; it's even more original than the last. I like it. And, I don't have any issues with this.

So, you're [ACCEPTED]

EDIT: The only thing I'd like to be clarified with this, actually, is your position upon the map. Where in the south are you... which island? If you can point this out in The Territories forum in the map thread, that'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

NVM, I'd rather have the spot of land next to iron hull, just north of it.
