Imperial March
Thu Jun 23, 2011 10:48 pm
Brilliant Trumpets sounded and the deep beat of drums filled the air of the Main Street in Brendenburg.
Civilians were too the sides of the road cheering on their brave soldiers and remembering the day
Werdens army breached the final wall that united the land. The soldiers marched on in their dark blue uniforms which contrasted to the officers clad in their clean white uniforms. The Kommandant himself was their watching, he stood upon his balcony and saluted the passing men. Soon the cavalry, Tysklands most cherished unit came galloping down the road. Sperling was prideful happy man, he stood tall and strong. After all he was the this nations leader, and he was letting everyone know. Rathke came up and stood by his side, waving to the crowd and smiling. he whispered into Sperlings ear "its finished." Sperling just kept smiling and saluting the soldiers and gave a quick nod. Rathke then turned and walked back inside, a Bundeswehr agent was waiting "your dismissed agent". The agent clicked his heels saluted and walked out. No one noticed, as no one ever does that one more man had been killed that day. With the cheering and yelling, no one noticed another mans scream, he had spoken out against the governments mandatory year of service. The Kommandant needs a war ready state, it was tradition and necessity. Besides the day was bright, sunny, and full of promise to the citizens of the great Tyskland empire. This day was a holiday in which to remember fallen soldiers and the nations great hero Kommandant Werden. People were eating drinking and being merry, just as the Kommandant wished.

It was another sunny morning and the nation was at rest after the holiday, everyone was at ease as people went about there normal business out in the streets of Brendenburg. The Kommandant was sitting at his desk skimming over recruitment papers and equipment forums. There was a knock at the door "Herr Sperling, may I come in"? came Rathkes voice from outside the door. "Ja come in Rathke" the door opened and he walked in closing the door behind him "have you head the news? about Capua"? He asked sitting in a chair next to the window. "Nein, whats the news"? Asked Sperling still looking over papers. "The king has been killed, a revolution..." replied Rathke. Sperling put the papers down and looked over to him, "A revolution? A revolution is contagious, it spreads like wildfire. Even being oceans away that is troubling" Sperling said with a tense face. "What do you suggest we do"? asked Rathke. "Nothing" was Sperlings reply. "Herr Kommandant..nothing.."? A slightly shocked Rathke asked. "We are a proud nation Rathke, our people are filled with honor and tradition. Our people know there place, they know what is best for the Fatherland. I am best, they know this. I am confident when our people know they will realize that I hold true power and I keep these lands safe and at peace" Sperling stated with a clear confident voice. "I suppose you are right, news like that cant be hidden. Trying will only have the people lose faith in us" Rathke said relaxing into his chair. Sperling went back to work and the room fell silent again.

The rest of the morning was quiet and noon soon passed, Sperling was still going over papers while Rathke went through different reports and files of the surrounding regions. "Kommandant we have a report from the garrison at Gladbeck that recent merchants and travellers have been attacked along the highway, and their forces have been unable to find the source of the attackers." Rathke said breaking the silence. "Some highway bandits huh?... there's always someone who cant find an honest living." Sperling said with a sigh. "Alright send a patrol(13 men) of Dragoners and crush what resistance there is." Sperling finished looking over to Rathke. "Ja Kommandant" He said with a salute before heading out the door to get the Rittmeister(cavalry commander) to find a suitable officer for the job.
Rathke contacted a newly trained officer named Donnink, he was given his order and command over patrol of Dragoners. The men were fresh out of training, while being well disciplined they lacked any combat experience. "Your just going after some low life bandits, we have full confidence that you can dispose of them quickly and efficiently Kapitan" Rathke stated as Donnink began moving on with his men. "Ja Anfuhrer" replied Donnink with a spirited salute.

Donnink and his men have just arrived on the strip of highway where the most recent attacks have occurred. Nothing out of the ordinary was happening along the road, far ahead was the forest where Donnink was sure the bandits were hidden. "Eyes sharp men" He said as they approached the forest. The forest was beautiful, wonderful sounds of the birds nesting above the heads of the soldiers. There was a slight breeze which russled the leaves of the trees, and the forest began whistling. It was peaceful and serene. "Over there Kapitan!"
A soldier said, the heads of the men turned to see colors of grey and red flashing through the trees. "C'mon men after them!" Commanded Donnink, the horses and riders moved as swiftly as the could through the trees "its just too dense Kapitan" A soldier remarked. The quickness and strength of horses was useless in the dense growth of the forest. "Dismount! Dismount and push on!"
Ordered Donnink as the the horses were tied to trees. The men in red lacked military training and it was noticed, the soldiers were catching up. Soon the Kapitans men were able to view clearly the enemies grey coats, and their rifles shining in what sun cut through the canopy. The men saw a clearing up ahead, the Kapitan saw this as a chance to have his men take the shots when they had a clear view of fire. The men passed into the clearing *Musket shots, screams*
"Ambush"! Yelled Donnink as four men dropped dead around him. "Take cover, fire at will!" Came the command, the remaining men turned back and ducked into what cover there was on the edge of the clearing. They opened fire on the aggressors and quickly attempted to reload there rifles. "C'mon men remember your training" Donnink yelled to his men as he fired his pistol at the enemy. Donninks men were able to reload noticeably faster, they had been trained with there carbines and it was showing. More shots rang out as the red coated men fell, but the Kapitan had already lost another three men. Another two fell as Donnink was searching for a way out. "God help us! Retreat!" yelled a soldier as he took off running only to receive two a bullets into his back. "Hold your ground!" The Kapitan yelled out.
"Kapitan, Rittmeister must hear of this! Go we will cover you!" A soldier yelled out over the gunshots "Nein! I can not leave you" Donnink screamed back. "No disrespect, but I am encouraging you to GO!" The soldier said with a stern expression "Don't have us all die in vein" Another soldier finished. With regret Donnink began to fall back to where the horses were "You will not be forgotten" He yelled as he ran back and untied a horse. The remaining soldiers reloaded and looked to each other, the Kapitan was on his way towards safety so their mission was complete. Ammo was low and two of the remaining were wounded. "Be ready to charge" The acting Kapitan said with a commanding voice. "FOR THE FATHERLAND!" The battle cry came out as the soldiers sprinted into the clearing firing off their remaining shot. Four more died in the charge and the others engaged in a melee fight to the death, the shining sabers of the Dragoners were bright in the evenings light. It was finished the remainder of the men, save Donnink, had been killed and the Kommandant was in for a shock

"What do you mean rebels?!" Asked the Kommandant in a stern voice. "these men were no bandits Herr Kommandant, they were well equipped." Responded
the Rittmeister. Sperling took a deep breath, he didn't think something like this would happen. These rebels must have been preparing for awhile,
and that revolution over in Capua was just a spark for these men. "Donnink reports that the men were dressed in grey coats with a red trim, and had
sufficient knowledge in guerrilla warfare." Stated the Rittmeister and handing over the Kapitan's written report. Sperling took the report and turned
to Rathke "I want the flames extinguished, take a battalion of three-hundred men and sweep that forest" Sperling cut off the sentence and turned to the
Rittmeister "you've done well, dismissed" he then waited till he had left the office and continued on "And I want the Bundeswehr to be listening everywhere they can, find the leader of this and silence him!" Commanded Sperling. "Ja Kommandant!" Rathke saluted then left to fulfill his orders.

With the quick reaction and sheer might of the battalion of soldiers sent to clear the insurgent forces, ended with a complete success. twenty-four men were lost when the enemy camp was discovered deep within the forest, the enemy was at least fifty strong and moderately equipped. Other soldier groups had also found weapon and ammo caches scattered through the forest. After the camp had been taken a roster list, naming all the civilians that had signed up to support the cause was found on an enemy officer. All eighty-two the civilians have been found and arrested and await interrogation and possible execution or life imprisonment. The bodies of the soldiers under the command of Donnink have been found and were given a proper military burial. The civilians have been informed of the treachery that has taken place, and that it was failed.
The Kommandant finished reading the report and sat back down in his chair, turing to Rathke "This is good, with the flames extinguished we can move past this incident and on to the next. Now what have the Bundeswehr found about the commanders of this plot?" Sperling asked his advisor. "Herr Kommandant the Bundeswehr have located two leaders of the rebellion, and their supplier. they have all been disposed of and further investigation is in process." Rathke replied. "That's just what I wanted to hear" Sperling said smiling.
"Herr Kommandant!" came a voice from the other end of the door "We have news on Capua" Sperling nodded and Rathke opened the door letting the younger officer in. The officer saluted and handed the paper over to Sperling.
"A speech? Friends! Capuans! Countrymen...great and insidious confusion ...performing such vicious acts ...Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity... It seems the Capuans have taken back the city and fighting Communism" Sperling said skimming through the speech and handing it over to Rathke. "This is good, a good blow has been struck at Communist influence" Rathke stated. "Ja.. ja this is very good. What do you say we have a toast, a revolution ended here, and a blow towards communists over in Capua." Said Sperling with a smile, he hasn't had a good drink in awile. "Aye, splendid idea" agreed Rathke. "I will compose a letter in congratulations to the leaders of Capua, then gather some officers and we can split up a keg" Said Sperling pulling out some paper. "Ja" Rathke replied turning towards the door.
