Rune Magic.
Rune Magic is a strange thing, cast by writing runes on magical rocks it has many uses. Only the Dwarves of Northgan can use it and those that do aren't very common. To be gifted with Rune Magic is something all young Dwarves hope happens to them. It can be cast in simple words or long sentences, it is rumored a Dwarven Stone Master can call down a storm of lightning greater then those seen in storms but he must be given a full day to carve the Runes properly. Though longer spells take longer to write it is clear that they are well worth the wait by their power. A master of Rune Magic is rare and held in high regard, he or she is always sought by those in need of aid.
Elements Used:
Rune Magic uses four basic elements, these are Lightning, Fire, Wind and Water.
Lightning is the most common type of Rune Magic, all Rune Readers can use it. It can be cast mainly in bolts flying from the casters hands, bolts striking the foe form the sky, a storm of blows to wreak havoc amongst an army, to create a shield of lightning to protect the caster and others around him, chain lightning that strike one foe and continues on into others and much more. Those that specialize in storm have a lightning bolt branded on their forehead.
Fire is the second most common type of magic used by Rune Readers. It has no defensive use and is only used by Battle Readers. It can be cast in normal fireballs, multiple fireballs, a tornado of fire, a rain of fire from the sky, a eruption form the ground and much more. Those that specialize in fire have a flame branded on their forehead.
Wind is solely used by Shield Readers, it has little offensive use and many defensive uses and little can use it due to it's complex runes. It can be cast in a wall of wind to knock away arrows and other projectiles, a whirlwind around someone to knock their foes flying and much more. Those that specialize in wind magic have a S branded on their forehead (S being the Dwarven rune for Wind).
Water is only used by Master Readers due to it's massive strength drain, the water spells are seldom cast and only in dire need. Their powers can be devastating on and off the battle field. Those the can use it have a raindrop branded on their forehead.
