Prelude to Oracles Mandate Empty Prelude to Oracles Mandate

Fri Dec 11, 2009 5:12 pm
INFO: This prelude will be exactly what the title suggests. It will go back more than 730 years before Oracles Mandate's time frame. More or less, this will be like many memoirs from certain figures during the times leading up to the assassination of Emperor Polius IV for Ryerdae, and the fated disappearance of the Oracles Mandate.

Please enjoy the story and comments, questions, and critiques are very much appreciated.

Chapter One: Origin of the Land

A large wooden ship sails through the deep mist. Waves splash against the hull, as the creak of the wheel and rudder were drowned out. Small lights started to flicker here and there within the ship, showing that whoever was on board, was of course still alive. Silhouettes from figures roaming the deck paced back and forth, staffs with pointed heads held tight in marred hands. All was quiet aside from the slow methodical crash of the waves, until a yell comes from the crows nest high above. A single figure moves to the head of the ship and lays both hands on the front railing. He lifts a hand above his head, and a glow, as if from burning embers starts to form in his palm. It is fire, a fire in the palm of his hand, and yet not harming him in the lease. The water ahead, deep green and blue in color moved away from the ship, seemingly toward another solid mass.

One such thing was ahead of them. A piece of land, jutting out into the sea, possibly a part of a coast. The mans fire caught view of the land, illuminating the sandy shoreline to the others on the boat. Roars of laughter and cheers pierced the air around the ship, torches were lit, and consequently, alcohol was served. The ship docked that night, harboring one large party for its people.

The next morning, the sailors set out from the ship toward the land. All was bright now, and that little piece of land jutting out into the sea, happened to be a little piece of land, only to be a part of something much much bigger. The adventurers who found this land intended to find nothing but small islands, but instead found nigh an entire continent. The boat was still docked more than four hundred feet from the shore, but small boats were taken out and rowed to the new land. The long hulls of the boats crunched on the shallow sand below, allowing for the adventurers to climb out. Their boots touched the land, they had made their marks.

The ones who landed were tall in stature, along the lines of 6 feet or taller, rather average weight for that height, and wore an assortment of armor. Hanging by their hips were longswords of the finest silver or steel. On their arm, was a large round shield, and in their hands were held spears of the same material. Knights they were, but of less than noble origin. One stood before the others, in all dark armor. A long regal cape flowed in the wind behind him in a color of gold and navy blue. Atop his high helm fluttered a Mohawk of green stallion hair. He gripped a flag, which he unfurled forthwith and stabbed into the ground. The blue and gold flag flowed in the breeze, showing a strange new symbol.

"I, Polius I claim this land in the name of Tempera. Ryerdae shall it be called, and New Tempera shall be its capital!" Bellowed the strong voice of the leader, Polius.

Around them, the mist from the night before started to finally clear away. The adventurers and Polius turned in every direction and watched on in awe. Masses of land, far away from them, turned up all around them. They were indeed on an island, but only to be surrounded by many other pieces of land. They lay in the center, the very core of this new land, now called Ryerdae.

Prelude to Oracles Mandate Empty Re: Prelude to Oracles Mandate

A new found colony took its roots. It was properly named the Imperial City, made to be the grandest capital ever created. The land was theirs for the taking, and theirs to explore. Years went by quickly, and the colony soon became a nation. Citizens, now identified as Ryerdaens, or more commonly as "Imperials" landed in the harbors by the Imperial City. Five more major cities were erected around the main island in New Tempera. Founded as the five greatest cities of the Empire, they were properly named: Polia, Kalos, Ryerdalo, Refuge, and Gracia.

The colonies started to flourish, and become quite prosperous. It was around this time that Polius I met with the last of the Ayleid race. On an expedition to what would later be known as Tamrodiil, Polius met with a mysterious leader. He has been known as Kryptar in the ancient history. That fateful day, a mysterious storm befell the land, causing earthquake and disaster. Kryptar gave Polius, a mere adventurer three stone tablets. Its written runes glowed a mild blue. Kryptar allegedly told Polius something before he and the rest of the Ayleids headed into the mist that night, toward the Forest. They were never seen again, and thus they were seen as the last of the ancient beings.

Many years later, the Imperial City was completed. It was the very picture of brilliance. Thousands of citizens turned to millions, and soon the Imperials stood as the dominant race among them all. The official time line was started then, as RFA 0.. the Ryerdaen First Age, year Zero. During the next ten years, it would be seen as the Great Immigration. Other races seemed to flood in from other lands, or resurface from the unknown parts of Ryerdae. Most races did not affiliate with each other, although none wished to war either, seeing New Tempera as the greatest threat.

All people prospered, the peoples advanced in technology and government. The Imperials soon truly became citizens of a growing Empire. Polius was soon crowned, by public opinion, as the first Emperor of New Tempera. His dwelling soon became the great Imperial Palace, established in the very center of the Imperial City. The nation became centralized under one man, one government, and one banner.

New Tempera was not the only nation to change. Under the great influence of the Imperials, the other races mimicked them and started their own monarchies. The year of RFA 50, was soon to be known, as the Year of Centralization. Races became powerful, large, and most importantly a threat to Imperial power.

Progression was steady, and soon relationships between peoples began to form. Imperial influence could clearly be seen in capital cities all over the land. Each race tried to outdo the Imperials in grandeur and power. Monarchs decided on trade with each other, which counted as the major force of foreign social contact. But, by the year of RFA 100, the death of Polius I arrived.

The Imperials mourned for months, the death of their great leader. He was the one who paved the way to greatness. His Empire grew under his keen eye, as did his own son, Polius II. By his fathers death, he was fifteen years old. He reveled in the prospect of war, which was greatly shown most clearly in his foreign policy.
