Re: The Imperial Invasion

Shock had spread through the flagship. Swords were drawn and spears lowered at the three lone Vurstarians. Before any soldiers were able to swing a blade, nor give a war cry, a shout came from behind the group of surrounded Imperials.

"Halt! Stay your weapons men, let me see these Vurstarians." The voice came from none other than Xalerion, who pushed his way through the crowd of soldiers.

Xalerion looked upon the faces of the Vurstarians. He spotted the one he had wounded the day before they had invaded the two land cities. A shadow of sorrow passed over his face as he looked upon the bandages that he still wore. Behind Xalerion, the nine prisoners, still chained, looked from the Vurstarians and Xalerion in wonder.

"I had a feeling I would meet you again, Vurstarian." Xalerion said in a kinder voice.

"Indeed, Temperean. However this time it seems things are slightly different." The flagship was smeared with blood. Some of which were of Vurstarian, but most were Imperial. There was a lot to be talked of, but I wasn't sure if this was exactly the right time or spot to chit-chat.

"It seems that your troops were holding innocent civilians hostage here. We've come across occasional bodies on deck." I looked emotionlessly at the man in dark armor. I could tell he was hearing me out like he had done the last time. That made things a lot easier, I must say. "I don't take kindly to such actions, you see. They have been taken care of properly."

Whether it was a smart idea or not, I approached the crowd of Imperials cautiously. However I wasn't afraid. Some of the troops that had their weapons armed stepped out of the way, but they weren't so fond of making way for me. My gaze didn't shift in any way. I made sure to make myself clear. "If it isn't too much trouble, I wish to know what happened elsewhere. Why do you hold your own in chains?"

Xalerion sighed as he heard that more of his own soldiers had killed Vurstarian civilians, or enslaved them within his own ships. As he watched the angered Vurstarian approach him and ask the question, he glanced back at his own prisoners.

"You would like to know about these men? Why they are chained? Well... to put this bluntly, it is exactly the reason why you killed my Imperials aboard this ship. I caught these men.. mere recruits.. committing wartime atrocities.. I will not go into detail. They will be dealt with like all who commit such acts, lifetime imprisonment within the Imperial Prison."

"Imprisonment you say..?" To me, that wasn't enough. I don't know how many of our own they slaughtered, but I wasn't going to let their justice rule over. They must be destroyed for harming innocence. I lashed my tail against the ground as the blades of my battle claws made a slicing sound against each other. "Unfortunately, I don't see that as commendable. They've butchered innocent civilians, they must be justified with the same fate."

I could see the fear building in their eyes. My eyes grew cold as I glared at them. I had no intentions of letting those chained up for murder off this shore with their lives. Returning my gaze at the man in black armor, I kept a relaxed tone, although I meant it to be harsh as well. "Judgement stands now. I will be their executioner."

Xalerion closed his eyes and looked piercingly into the Vurstarians eyes.

"I have lived since the wars of the last age, as I'm sure you have as well. What does killing these men give to the men that they killed. Blood for blood does not work, it did not work with my Lords death, it shall not work today in this age. They would not harm another Vurstarian even if they held a weapon now, they would be too afraid... not because of the weapons you brandish, your angry temperament... but because of the shame they shall carry until they die. They have been forsaken by an entire race, they have been shunned by their own people, and they will deal with a judgment set by their own people. I am sorry, but I will not let you kill these men, even if they do deserve every bit of it."

Re: The Imperial Invasion

I knew he was right, that was the unfortunate thing. I was reacting out of selfishness and I hated myself for it. In his eyes, I could see that he was sincere about dealing with these rejections. It gave me a sense of closure, though I wasn't completely fond of the idea I knew that it was the better way to handle things. I refused to break our eye contact.

"Very well, I'll subside from taking action upon them." This fighting needed to come to an end. We've saved as many civilians as we could, now there needs to be a discussion of peace. The thing is, how would we negotiate? There was a feeling I had that these Tempereans may not act lightly on us. None the less, I had to take care of this since there was no king to deal with the action. "I was told that the king had started this war for his own selfish and cowardly reasons. In fact, he had told me himself." I could remember it so easily. S'grasso running in fear as I pursued him, what a joke. I couldn't believe that I was loyal to him. "He told me of his intentions and that this fight was to protect him from an inevitable execution."

It was to no suprise that the Vurstarians behind me were still in disbelief. They were just as uneasy as I was about the whole situation. We all felt betrayed, and it hurt to think that our own king would send us to slaughter for his own protection. Although I wasn't sure how these Tempereans would react to me killing S'grasso. Would they be hostile and take advantage of our lack of a leader? Would they make peace and negotiate? Or maybe they might do something completely different. "Our king is dead. He was a coward and only thought of himself. In the end, he had no concern for the nation he ruled or the people that inhabited it. His false rein is over and we can now live on and do the things we do for the right reasons. Do not let his actions reflect us as a whole."

I wasn't really sure what to do from here. I said what I needed to say, but calling an end to the war and requesting negotiation may be out of line with the position we were in. I suppose the only thing we could do is surrender. At least it would be the smartest and more honorable thing to do. I got onto my knees in defeat. "We want no more unecessary harm to this nation. I speak for all the Vurstarians when I say that. With this, we surrender."

With the surrender of the entire Vurstarian military, Xalerion was a bit surprised. He patted one of his soldiers on the back and ordered him to lead the prisoners down the the cells in the bilge of the ship. The entire invasion force, aside from the soldiers still guarding Quinlos'lo and Tr'mala was assembled on the beach awaiting his orders.

Xalerion looked to the Vurstarian on the ship and then to his fellow Imperial Guards. To the surprise of everyone on board, Xalerion stood straight up and gave an honorable salute to the defeated Vurstarians. He looked them in the eyes, thought not with his usual cold stare.

"You, as our enemy, fought bravely and endured well in the face of a national danger. I am honored to have fought another brave soul such as yourself, Vurstarian. Here are my orders to you. Have all Vurstarian personnel relinquish all military grade weapons from your army. We will do the confiscations. Second, I would like you to vote in a new leader, a nation cannot function for long without one. Third, my soldiers will take control of the land cities of Quinlos'lo and Tr'mala until said monarch is instated on the throne of P'rossara. And fourth, any form of rebellion within the state against your current holdings will be suppressed by force if necessary. I promise you however, that as soon as a new leader of Vurstaria is chosen, diplomacy can take hold between our nations." Xalerion said.

As he looked across the sea toward where New Tempera would be found, he smiled, finally seeing the first victory of this war. As he glanced back at the Vurstarians, he finally said:

"And also, I find it unfitting for us to continue to name each other after our races, it is rather redundant, don't you think. Allow me to introduce myself, I am the Captain of the Imperial Guards, Xalerion. Your name?"

Standing myself up properly, I returned eye contact in content. I nodded in agreement to his proposals, it was great to hear that everything could be settled peacefully. "I am Et'rivvok, Warlord of the Vurstarian Naval Forces." Taking a few steps forward, the other Vurstarian soldiers smiled with relief. I held out my hand in front of Xalerion as a sign of truce. The compromise was made, I would make sure that this defeat would turn over to be a chance at alliance.

"I agree to your requests, Xalerion. Let this be a chance for peace." The rest of the soldiers moved closer and knelled behind me in respect. After the handshake was made, I turned and faced the soldiers. "Return to P'rossara for now, I'll be coming shortly. Announce a meeting in the auditorium for all naval staff. This war is over." A quick salute, and the Vurstarians plunged into the clear waters.

OOC: Annnnd this will mark the last post of the battle for Vurstaria, I will be posting the next topic directly after this however, so watch for it. Btw, very nice job with this guys, the battle turned out to be excellent! =)

Xalerion had made the alliance by the request of Chancellor Umaria Otopan. Diplomacy was something that all Imperials happened to be good at when it came to war, as well as warring itself. This odd paradox however bothered none, as they kept up their proud history and tradition.

Soon after the battle was over, two thousand heavily armed soldiers were to be left in Vurstaria and distributed amongst the cities. Orders were clear: Hold the cities until a monarch was chosen and correct delegation was preformed. The soldiers, after a while became friendly enough with the local people, and even helped to rebuild the damage done from the battles. The coast was cleaned up, and all the dead, Vurstarian and Imperial alike were buried with reverence.

The day that the agreement was made, Xalerion had all forced except the chosen guards, to get on the ships and prepare for departure. Anchors were lifted, sails unfurled, and the wind guided the thousands of weary soldiers home, back to New Tempera for rest. They battled well, and as history would show, the Campaign in Vurstaria proved to be the most successfully planned and orchestrated battle that the Imperial ever won.

The ships reached the ports of Ryerdalo in about two weeks time. The battle started in RSA 1, Morningstar 15th, and ended only fourteen days ago, on Morningstar 31st, the battle took sixteen days to complete. When the soldiers filed out, inns took them in of course, as well as patriotic homes. The soldiers rested well for a day, before they marched on toward the Imperial City, which they reached in three days.

Upon the arrival of the troops in the Imperial City, Xalerion split from the army and headed straight for the military high command building. There, he met with Chancellor Otopan and they discussed the war and its progression. Diplomacy would finally begin, and slowly but surely, the Empire would hopefully heal from its horrible wounds.
